Today was a great way to start off the week!
We had free play for the morning. After going through last week, I noticed that the children really missed having their Monday morning free time, and noticing that they are only four... :) they deserve to have some time that is just for their imagination.
After lunch and nap we did the following:
Scholastic Magazine: Today for our scholastic magazine we learned all about our very first president! This was a great opportunity to introduce money in coins and dollar bills. The children completed a worksheet in which they predicted whether facts were true or not about George Washington. For example, was George Washington one of the heads on Mount Rushmore? We then completed our magazine, and then came back to the worksheet and filled in the true answers. The children found it very fun to see if they were right or wrong. They then completed a worksheet where they determined which image did not belong, this was done independently.
Reading: The children really pushed themselves today, reading for 15 minuted independently! I was very proud to see them being so studious and reading using the voice in their heads! We then went on to learn our new sight word for the week: not. We sang our songs and reviewed our other sight words as well. We then did our sight word poke page, which had a large emphasis on our fine motor skills. We then worked on forming the letter Zz. While the children colored in their letter Zz books I walked around reading our third chapter of Jack and Annie: Sunset of the Saber tooth!
Word Study: Our new interactive sight word for the week is down.
