It's Wednesday!

Science: We had quite a busy science day today! Our focus was on the sun and the moon.  We started by talking about why the sun seems to disappear in the night! We acted out our Earth rotating around the sun.  The children were in a lot of shock when they learned that the Sun actually was not the one that moved, WE ARE! We acted out the Earth spinning in a circle and then rotating around the sun.  To demonstrate the orange sky in the early morning and early evening, and the blue sky of the day we put water and milk into a clear jar.  We then turned out all of the lights, and shone a flashlight throw the jar.  When we shined the light on the side of the jar the liquid turned blue, and when we shone it on the bottom the water turned orangish yellow.  This showed us that when the sun is farther away from us the sky is lighter, but when it is close to us it creates dark orange colors.
We then talked about the moon.  Using oreos (gluten free of course :) ) we made the different phases of the moon pictured below.  We then of course ate a few of our oreos, but we had quite a few so we will be bringing the rest home!

Gym: It was a yoga day!
Reading / Literacy: In literacy today, we did more practice with sight word is. We did our sight word maze. Our tracing page helped us to focus on our small motor skills. We worked on taking our time, and training our hand to create the shapes that we found.
Writing: In writing today, we did our interactive alphabet page for letter Cc.  On this page we worked on tracing upper and lower case c, as well as writing upper and lower case c.  We then colored in an assortment of pictures, that we then cut out and sorted for words starting with c and the words that do not start with c.
Word Study: Our word study focus today, was consonant letter Tt.  We are working on deciding which letters are vowels: A, E, I, O, U (the letters that sometimes say their names in words) and consonants.  We looked at our picture, and everything in the tub that started with t we put an X on.
Math: In math we learned our song: Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star which we learned hand motions to as well.  I will be posting a video of that tomorrow.  We then made out stars books, where we worked on taking our time counting to 5 using one to one correspondence.
