February is here!

Welcome to February! We welcomed in February with many fun activities!
Reading / Literacy: In reading today, we continued to practice reading for 3 minutes independently using the voice inside of our heads.  We then worked on syllable counting and matching games with our partners.  We sang our sight word songs, reviewing all 14 of our sight words! To then practice our sight word me we completed our sight word maze.  While the children worked on illustrating their letter Kk books, I read to them from our sixth Jack and Annie book.  In this book we are in the Amazon rain forest in search of the second magical item that will free librarian Morgan La Fey.  We found the moonstone first, what will come next?
Word Study: In word study today we worked in our interactive notebooks with interactive sight word for. We worked on tracing the word, writing ourselves, rainbow writing the word: for, and looking at the shape of the letters, talking about their height specifically.  This helps us to differentiate between letters that reach up tall and letters that are short.
Writing: In writing today we started the first day of our alphabet cook book.  From now on when we introduce a new letter that we are going to work on writing we are going to make a treat that starts with that letter.  As we are working on reviewing letter Bb today, we made a Beautiful Butterfly snack.  Pictures are below:

The children followed the recipe and then completed it.  They really enjoyed getting their hands in the food and taking on the role as Alphabet Chefs!
Gym: In Gym today we worked on finding our center through doing yoga.  We love cosmic kids yoga! As we are going to be talking about water and Earth in science in the afternoon, we did the cosmic kids yoga Squish the Fish!

Math: In math today we continued our sheep song, counting one to one up to number 20!  The children really enjoy the songs, and they allow for a very creative way for us to learn math.  Our worksheet focused today on identifying number three and counting and cutting our three sheep wool bags and gluing them to our truck.
Science: We had a very busy science day today!  We talked all about Earth and what makes it up.  To help us we made two kinds of visual presentations: one out of paper to hang on the walls in the basement and then one that is edible for eating fun!
The poster was made in layers.  The children cut out mountains, hills, valleys, plains, and the ocean and glued them to paper.  This project was a really creative way for us to practicing cutting in zig zag lines, curved lines, straight lines and snipping.  We then labeled each land form and added a sparkly river and waves to our water.
Our edible representation included the ocean, grass, mountains, hills, fish, and a river!  Below are many pictures! (Vanilla Wafer- island, small chocolate chips- hills, large chocolate chips- mountains, light blue- ocean, dark blue- river, green- grass)

Music: In our first music class today, we learned about music notes! We learned that musicians learn to read music by notes.  We created our own notes and then created our own song with each one of us adding notes to our songs.  Stars were chair hits, squares were table pounds, triangles were snaps, and hearts were claps.  Below are videos of our songs that we made.  It was A LOT OF FUN!!!

Have a wonderful Wednesday night!

  1. The videos look just like pictures and didn't come thru as videos?

  2. It would seem that the videos have a hard time playing on phones and Ipads, have you tried playing them on a laptop?
